It is okay to do nothing. Right?

I took it as a sign when I saw this Peanuts in the paper.

I need to let go of the notion that I *must* be doing something useful or “important” all the time.

New affirmations:

It is okay to watch TV and play with the dogs even if the dishes aren't done. .

It is okay to play Angry Birds even if the floor needs to be mopped.

It is okay to sit on the patio and watch the birds even if I haven't done a new blog post.

I don't have to write a novel.

I don't have to create stained glass art.

It is okay to just be.

  1. It is okay to just be, but have a friend who is willing to rush over to your house and scrape your dirty laundry off the floor and toss the dishes into the dishwasher (or the trash) in the event of your untimely death because you wouldn't want your mother going on about what a lazy slob you were in life, even though you were actually having a life and not white gloving everything to death like her.

    Wait.

    Or is that only me?

    1. Thank you. This made me laugh. :-)

Often, before I leave for work, I look around to see whether I would be embarrassed if someone had to come in and rescue my dogs if I ended up in the hospital.

Too many cop shows, I guess.

    2. It is not just okay, it is what most people work their whole lives to accomplish! It's win, win, and win! Playing with the dogs and watching tv are awesome. Have you watched the entire Justifed series yet? If not, forget that laundry. How many people have the personality or the opportunity to engage in such awesomeness? If you can do it, it is most likely a small window of time, so use it.

    3. I don't know it you'll see this, but thank you for the validation. It's harder than I expected to overcome childhood admonishments of "don't you have something useful to do?".

And yet, when i ignore the "shoulds", my headaches are much better.

I've heard good things about Justified. I'll have to check it out.

      Thank you.
